Kensington Garden Revival – Personalized Garden Insights & Restoration Blueprint

This project involved a full-scale transformation of a tired and neglected urban backyard into a vibrant, modern, and low-maintenance garden retreat. The original space had been overrun by patchy turf, stubborn weeds, and compacted soil, making it both uninviting and difficult to manage. The goal was not just to refresh the look of the space, but to build a garden that would thrive with minimal upkeep and offer the homeowners a relaxing, green escape from city life.
Project Overview

A short intro summarizing the project:

This urban garden transformation brought new life to a tired backyard space in the heart of Kensington. The client wanted a clean, modern, low-maintenance lawn and flowerbed layout that would be ideal for weekend entertaining.

“In a smaller urban garden like this, every detail matters. The curve of the lawn gives the illusion of space and movement, while the plant selection was based on longevity, fragrance, and minimal upkeep. Our goal was to make it not just beautiful, but functional — the kind of place that welcomes you to slow down.”

Our Process

Break down the steps taken:

Site Assessment & Planning:

  • We began with a site survey and in-depth consultation. The couple wanted soft landscaping with defined zones — a green lawn for visual appeal, and a seating area for entertaining. We proposed a clean, curved lawn design with flowerbeds and low-maintenance plant species.

Clearing & Preparation:

  • Old turf, weeds, and damaged paving were removed. Soil was treated and levelled for fresh installation. We removed the existing, patchy turf and invasive weeds, trimmed overgrown shrubs, and excavate

Lawn Installation:

  • We laid high-quality turf rolls with precision edging for a crisp finish, then added curved borders for softness. Premium turf rolls were laid with precise levelling and pressure rolling for immediate lushness. The curves softened the square layout, creating a flow that opened up the garden visually.

Planting & Final Touches:

  • Seasonal flowerbeds were installed with hydrangeas and lavender. A compact stone-paved seating area was added for relaxation. We added hydrangeas, lavender, and hostas for seasonal blooms and scent, with mulch beds for moisture control. A corner seating space was created with smooth-cut stone slabs and a custom wooden bench.

Aftercare Plan

  • We provided a tailored care guide and scheduled two follow-up visits to check turf health and ensure plant establishment.
“One of the most common mistakes I see is people cutting their grass too short, especially in spring and summer. Leaving it just a little longer encourages deeper roots and protects it from heat stress. If you’re not adjusting your blade height with the seasons, you’re missing a key part of lawn care.”
